FCNPFFL: 2013 Championship

Another season in the books. This marks the leagues 17th season and my 16th as commissioner. We had easily the most exciting end to a regular season for that last playoff spot and another dominant team for the record books.

All in all I hope everyone enjoyed the season and I do expect everyone back next year. Of course if life intervenes and you cannot join us for year 18 let me know as soon as possible.

I have some rule changes in mind for next year which I will bring to the floor before next seasons draft. If you have can think of anything you would like changed please feel free to let me know whenever you want.

Okay onto the Championship Game between #1 Seed Adam and #6 Seed Nate:

In the QB battle Kirk Cousins narrowly edged out Tom Brady 13-12 giving Nate a one point lead. At RB Nate extended his lead with 29 total points from DeMarco Murray and Bobby Rainey while Adam got just 18 points from Jamaal Charles and Pierre Thomas (who posted a big fat zero). At WR Nate watched his lead disappear. The usually stout combo of Vincent Jackson and Andre Johnson mustered just 10 points while Eric Decker doubled that by himself with 20 points and Julian Edelman tacked on 5 points. Adam now held a three point lead. Neither player had a decent TE showing as Nate scored the only point from Heath Miller. Vernon Davis gave Adam his second zero of the Championship. Each team got 13 from their kickers Nick Novak and Matt Prater. With a two point lead it would come down to the defenses for Adam to hang on and win. He started the Bengals D and they came through with a DTD, 4 turnovers and 4 sacks to post 14 points. Nate would need a minor miracle from the Lions D to win. Although they forced two turnovers, two sacks and had a safety it was only good for 8 points. Adam completes his dream season at 14-1 and takes home his 2nd FCNPFFL  Championship!!! Congrats Adam on a great season.

Final Score: Biggums' 'Basers 82 The Bounchers 74

(as a reminder my predicted score was 84-73...so yeah)

In the 3rd place game, big brother Joel took down baby brother Luke behind 16 from Ryan Mathews, 12 from Matt Flynn and 11 from Julius Thomas. Luke saw his three Lions fail once again combining for just 16 points. Frank Gore did add 15 in a losing effort.

Final Score: Nikachu 67 Deathtongue 40

Until next August...

FCNPFFL: Playoffs Week 2 - Semifinals

Bad news: the fantasy football season is almost over.

More bad news: there's no Thursday night football to bridge us to the weekend

Who said this is the most wonderful time of the year? I for one am very sad. I'm probably the only fantasy owner in the world that not only lost WITH Jamaal Charles (another league), but got blown out 179-153. My last ditch effort last night was needing Megatron to outscore Justin Tucker by 15 points...how did that work out?

Okay back to this league where I could continue to whine and vent, but I won't (much). Let's keep the focus on the people who are actually still vying for a championship and not a whole bunch of what ifs.

The 'under card' of the week pitted defending champion and #6 Seed Nate against the Detroit Lions #2 Seed team coached by Luke. You have to hand it to Nate who started 1-4, then went 5-1, then 0-2 and backed into the last spot for not giving up all year. He won his first round playoff game with RGIII being benched in a blowout loss and then went into the semis without RGIII who has been shutdown. Nate plucked Kirk Cousins from the waivers and inserted him into the biggest game of the year and boy did he respond with a game high 31 points. He also got 20 from DeMarco Murray and 9 each from VJax and Nick Novak. Luke had a pretty deep hole to crawl out of with only Kendall Wright eclipsing double digits by the time the games stopped on Sunday. With three Detroit Lions left to play, Luke needed 53 points to win. He got 23. The good news is he didn't even have to sweat it out and be heartbroken down the stretch. The Lions just crapped the bed and ended Luke's season. Nate moves on to defend his title. We have only had two franchises reach a championship game the year after winning. Ben is the only team to win back-to-back and he did that way back in 2000-01 (long before free agency balanced out the league). The other franchise was Jody who won in 1999 and then lost to Ben in 2000. So it's safe to say that it's been awhile since this has happened. Kudos again to Nate who will be making his fourth appearance in the championship game. He is 2-1 so far.

Last season Nate beat Adam to win his championship. With a 10th (or 11th*) straight win, he'd get his chance at revenge. Standing in his way was another Hardi, this time Luke's big brother in Joel. Last week Joel went crazy with scoring, so Adam sent a note to his best player, Jamaal Charles, and asked for help. Five touchdowns and 51 fantasy points later, Adam was running away with this game. He also got 25 from Tom Brady, 17 from Vernon Davis and 15 from Julian Edelman to lead the league in scoring for the week. Joel gave it a great effort getting 29 from Matt Flynn, 18 from Ryan Mathews, 13 from Keenan Allen and 11 from the Cardinals D. Adam moves to 13-1 and hasn't scored less than 94 points in the last four weeks. He will be the heavy favorite to win his 2nd championship in his fourth appearance (1-2 so far). It's been a great run so far for Adam, but next week is the big one.

The matchup should look like this:

#1 Seed Adam               v               #6 Seed Nate

QB Tom Brady                              QB Kirk Cousins
RB Jamaal Charles                         RB DeMarco Murray
RB Pierre Thomas                          RB Bobby Rainey
WR Eric Decker                             WR Andre Johnson
WR Julian Edleman                         WR Vincent Jackson
TE Vernon Davis                            TE   Heath Miller
K   Matt Prater                                K Nick Novak
D   Cincy                                         D Chicago??

Commish predicted score: 84-73 Adam

It's gotta be like looking into a mirror from last year for Nate who steamrolled through the competition winning his last 13 games.

Best of luck to you two.

Luke and Joel square off in the 3rd/4th place game as the only other true Week 16 game.

In other games from Week 15:

5th/6th place: Nick G defeated Ben 82-82...tie broken by the higher seed.
7th/8th place: John used 25 from Drew Brees to beat Mike 84-50
9th/10th place: Nick B rolled through Matt with 22 from Cam Newton 100-86
11th/12th place: I destroyed Ike behind seven double digit scorers 109-56

And finally....

Jody and Alex squared off in the Toilet Bowl Championship. Loser runs the draft board during the 2014 draft. Alex got 23 each from his two Cowboys, Tony Romo and Dan Bailey to defeat Jody who topped out with 16 from Philip Rivers. The stickers await DoggNutz.

Final Score: The Worthless Peons 76 DoggNutz 64

FCNPFFL: Playoffs Week 1

This time of year a fantasy season can be ruined by many things: weather, injuries, poor play, blowouts and owner errors. This week we saw it all. In a record scoring week in the NFL we saw elevated fantasy scores for some and complete whiffs for others.

Before we get to the games...I will NOT be able to make it to the annual FCNP Holiday Party meaning no payouts this week. If you are local and would like to schedule a swing by my work here in Fairfax please let me know and I'll bring the money. If not I will have to cut you a check.

As for this upcoming weeks games: THURSDAY brings us DENVER and SAN DIEGO. Set your rosters accordingly as I think this game will impact rosters far more than last weeks game did.

Okay...on with things:

#3 Seed Nick G went toe-to-toe with defending Champion and #6 Seed Nate in our first playoff game of the season. While most of the 1pm games were snow laden both Nick G and Nate saw some flake free fun. Nate got rolling first with an 80 yard TD run by Bobby Rainey as he finished with 24 points. Nick G had his top scorer going at 1pm as well as Andrew Luck blew up with 39 fantasy points. Then the bad news came for Nick G. Rashad Jennings was inactive and Nick G didn't react fast enough to get Marcel Reece in the game (who finished with 26 points). Then AP, the #1 overall draft pick, went down with an injury after scoring just a single point. Nate stepped on the gas pedal with 13 each from RGIII and Nick Novak and 10 from Vincent Jackson. Going into MNF Nick G needed a repeat effort from Alshon Jeffery from last week to pull out a miracle. He didn't get it...coming up 17 points short. Oh to have gotten Reece into the game. Nate survives in inexplicable fashion again as a dream of back-to-back championships lives on. Nate moves on to face #2 Seed Luke who caught a HUGE break with Stafford/Megatron playing in a blizzard as they combined for a paltry nine points and Luke mustered just 46 as a whole during his much needed BYE week.

Final Score: The Bounchers 88 The Lollipop Kids 71

The other side of the bracket featured long time owner and #4 seed Ben versus second year owner and #5 seed Joel. This game was a blowout. Ben got 35 points from Peyton Manning and 13 from Marshawn Lynch...his two constants...and stood no chance. His other six players combined for only 16 points. Joel got 19 from the Cardinals D, 18 from Ryan Mathews, 16 from Shane Vereen and 15 from Keenan Allen and had the game wrapped up long before Josh McCown stepped in to destroy the Cowboys with 41 fantasy points on Monday Night Football. Joel does NOT earn $10 for the top scoring team of the week, but he does get to play the #1 Seed in Adam who is currently riding a 10 game winning streak (really a 9 game streak, but he won on his BYE week too as he's just been that good). This should set up to be a great game as Adam went triple digits with 100 points behind 27 from Jamaal Charles and 26 from Tom Brady.

Final Score: Nikachu 118 The Magic Wands 64

In our Purgatory bracket:

#10 Seed Mike ran roughshod over #7 Seed Matt behind 39 from LeSean McCoy: 99-42

#8 Seed John rolled over #9 Seed Nick B behind a 31 point performance from Drew Brees: 82-61

In our Toilet Bowl bracket that determines draft board duties for the 2014 draft:

#11 Seed Jason held off #14 Seed Alex thanks to 25 from Josh Gordon: 81-56

#12 Seed Ike survived against #13 Seed Jody with four double digit scorers: 70-63

This sets up #14 Seed Alex vs #13 Seed Jody for Toilet Bowl Winner Loser

Other games:

Ike vs Jason for 11th/12th place
Matt vs Nick B for 9th/10th place
Mike vs John for 7th/8th place
Ben vs Nick G for 5th/6th place

#6 Nate vs #2 Luke in Semi-Final 1
#5 Joel vs #1 Adam in Semi-Final 2

Good luck to the four remaining participants!!!

FCNPFFL: Week 13 Results****

****all results pending a government review of why that wasn't ruled an interception by Seattle last night rather than a sack/fumble. Balls that go forward are usually called forward passes, thus resulting in an interception when the ball doesn't hit the ground and is caught by a member of the opposing team. (not bitter one bit)

Well...I hope everyone was thoroughly entertained by the most exciting 37-7 game in the history of football. We can't all be perched atop the league at 11-1 and having a safe stroll to the semi-finals of the playoffs. For no less than seven teams, the final two playoffs spots were up for grabs heading into MNF in the great northwest.

Everything I type here is based off of the current standings. PLEASE BE AWARE THAT EVERYTHING COULD CHANGE COME WEDNESDAY/THURSDAY. I will explain as best as I can, but without seeing the official stat corrections. For example, last week I earned 2 points on Wednesday as the 49ers were credited with two extra sacks against RGIII. Earlier this season Matt and I had 'tied', but by the time I woke up on Thursday I had lost because the Ravens lost a sack that had turned into a running play by the opposing quarterback. Hell last week Dez Bryant lost 16 yards receiving!!! Stuff happens and with this weeks results, a mere point could swing the fate for four different teams who were all one point away from having their seeds change. Yes guys this league was that close!!! Shut it Adam and your overpowering squad, we can all hear you laughing. It's karma for all the healthcare.gov website jokes I suppose.

Reminder for those four teams that actually play a meaningful game next week: THURSDAY night brings us the TEXANS and JAGUARS. I assume that game means nothing to any playoff team, but I'll throw it out there anyways.

Onto the godforsaken madness that had Mike and I up all night crunching numbers and scenarios on how it all went wrong.

Usually I start with my game, but that would ruin the suspense of the evening.

Let's start with the Hardi War of 2013. Win and you're in, lose and you're out. Father v Son. Thanksgiving week. Drew Brees vs Josh McCown. John came in on fire and Joel came in with a bunch of injured/benched players. He did have Josh McCown though who led all scorers with 29 points. John had Brandon Marshall on his side, but unfortunately every pass went to Alshon Jeffery as Marshall mustered just 3 points. Joel plugged in Shane Vereen for a benched Stevan Ridley and that got him 11 points while the Dolphins D added 13 points. John got 13 each from Stephen Gostkowski and the Panthers D, but looked to be dead in the water until fantasy zombie Steven Jackson blew up with 20 points. He was right back in the game with his best player left to play. Drew Brees needed 18 points to get John into the playoffs. Seattle was having none of that as Brees could only post half that leaving John just short of a miraculous season comeback. It was a great effort. Joel gets in with an injured Aaron Rodgers/Julius Thomas/Percy Harvin and a benched Stevan Ridley. Not too shabby in a 14 team league.

Final Score: Nikachu 75 The Situation 67

The next team that controlled his own destiny was Nate who just needed a win to get in against Matt. Nick B, Ike, Mike and I all needed Matt to win even though he had been eliminated on points alone to have a chance. Nate made a critical error by not setting his roster (I assume) leaving DeMarco Murray out and either Woodhead/Rainey in. Murray scored three touchdowns which was good for 26 bench points. Instead Nate had only one double digit scorer in RGIII who tallied 22 points. Matt came to play behind a stable of quality outings. Nick Foles stayed lightning hot with 25 points, Adam Vinatieri booted 20 points, Reggie Bush scampered for 19, Torrey Smith hauled in 12 and Larry Fitzgerald continued to amaze with 10 points. Matt had done his job opening the door for the four of us. Nate...well we'll get to that in a bit.

Final Score: Rainbows & Puppies 91 The Bounchers 59

So now Nick B could get in with a win or I could get in with a win and some help. This still makes plenty of sense. That is until this game came along. I got started on Thursday with 17 from Le'Veon Bell and took a 17 point lead into Sunday. Cam Newton got Nick B rolling with 31 points and Michael Floyd hauled in a TD to score 12 points. I had gotten a decent game from Josh Gordon, but was toiling in obscurity until he caught a game changing 95 yard touchdown and I suddenly vaulted ahead with his 35 point performance. I then got 19 from Kaep while Nick got 11 from Phil Dawson leaving me with an 11 point lead and Nick B having just the Seahawks D left to play. After a very questionable sack/fumble for a defensive TD, Nick B had regained the lead. The Saints scored knotting our game at 98 and that's the way it ended. Seattle earned no sacks/turnovers the rest of the way and the Saints couldn't score one meaningless TD the way the Rams did to my 49ers D late in the fourth to cost me two points. Ah two points...or hell one point how I love thee. C'mon stat correction gods!!! With the tie, Nick B and I were eliminated from playoff contention (Nick B due to points, me for being 0.5 games behind the group with a stellar .462 win %. We did both end up with the top scoring week of the league so we were splitting $10...two ways for now.

Final Score: Escaped Lunatics 98 The Knacks 98

So now it was up to Mike and Ike to decide the final playoff spot. Win and you're in for both of them. Simple as that. Both teams were going to outscore the others at .462 (Nick B, Matt, John and Nate). Mike started Carson Palmer over Matt Ryan which paid off as Palmer led the way for his team with 23 while Ryan score 18. Unfortunately, most every other decision went wrong for him. Andre Brown did score 16, Dez added 10, but Fred Jackson and his 18, Mike Wallace and his 11 and Greg the leg and his 8 could have all added more points to his starting lineup. Very similar to me starting Gano over Tucker and leaving 12 points on the table...the decisions we make that bite us in the ass. Ike got 14 from Gronk, 11 each from Moreno and AJ Green, but was dead to rights heading into MNF down by 24 with each team having two players left to play. In my head I couldn't figure out how Russell Wilson and Garret Hartley would outscore Jimmy Graham/Saints D by 24+ points. Wilson scored early only to see Jimmy Graham come right back to score. Then Wilson scored again and again as he shredded the Saints D. Ike had taken a lead, but with a sack and a Graham catch, Mike took a one point lead. Up a million points, the Seahawks faced a 3rd&7 with Wilson at 298 yards passing. This was basically his last series in the game. Ike was down a point. Mike was in the playoffs. One play...a pass to Zach Miller for a 1st down and Ike earned the final point of the night. Game tied. Yup. Another frickin' tie!!! Mike and Ike both join me at 5-7-1 and eliminated (barring further review).

Final Score: Bookoo Barbarians 73 Myra's College Fund 73

So that brings us back to the 4 teams at 6-7 or in Nick's case 5-6-2. All a .462 win % per CBS.

Head to head thrown out for a tie of 3+ teams.
We go to points....drum roll please.....

Nate gets in by virtue of being the top scoring team of that bunch!

Scenarios if anything changes from the ties:

If Nick B, Mike, Ike or I earn a point more than the others...we're in over Nate.

If Nick B loses his point from the sack/fumble that should be an INT, I'm in
If for any reason Mike and I both earn one point...Mike is in because he scored one more point than me on the season...yeah wouldn't that be a kick in the nuts??
If Ike and Nick B earn a point...Ike is in by points

Basically it goes from Mike to Jason to Ike to Nick B to God to Kent to the cleaners (name that movie reference).

We'll see if anything changes, but for right now...Nate is the #6 seed.

We still had the #3/#4 seeds to decide:

Nick G rolled through Luke behind 34 from Alshon Jeffery, 21 from AP, 15 from Rashad Jennings and 13 from Andrew Luck. Matt Stafford scored 24 for Luke as he rested up for his game in two weeks. Nick G became the 3rd member of the 98 point club for the week meaning Nick B's and my $5 and no playoff spot, turned into $3.33 and no playoff spot. Awesome. Nick G locked up the #3 seed with that win.

Final Score: The Lollipop Kids 98 Deathtongue 66

Ben having locked up the #4 seed now lost anyways to a red hot Jody. The only fun part was to see if Marshawn Lynch could get two more points to tie the game up with Jody and give us three ties on the week. Jody got 15 from Rivers, 14 from CJ2K and 11 from MJD to outlast Peyton Manning's 38 points.

Final Score: DoggNutz 64 The Magic Wands 62

Oh yeah, Adam won again by destroying Alex. Eric Decker became the newest hero for Adam with 35 points while Tim Brady tallied 25 and Jamaal Charles scored 16. Adam has now won 9 in a row and awaits somebody in the semi-finals in two weeks. Congrats again on a great season. If you had started Golden Tate over Terrance Williams we would have had four teams at 98 points.

Final Score: Biggums' 'Basers 94 Worthless Peons 50

FCNPFFL: Week 12 Results

Well this could get interesting...

We have 4 1/2 of the 6 playoff spots locked up...yes I included a 1/2 in that...you'll see later.

Before we get to that (this is usually my most fun post of the season...for the tiebreaker scenarios) let's look ahead to the NFL slate in Week 13. It's Thanksgiving week so you know that means 3 NFL games on THURSDAY!!!

For THURSDAY: DALLAS, DETROIT, GREEN BAY, OAKLAND, PITTSBURGH and BALTIMORE all play. Check you lineups and adjust accordingly.

NO BYE WEEKS!!!!!!!! Waivers will be done normally...as will K/DT add drops. Feel free to email or tweet (Ben) your wants and needs.

Onto the games:

My season has crumbled, but I got another chance to break my pesky losing streak against another Hardi...this time 1st place Luke. Matt Stafford paced the way for Luke with 22, but he didn't get his usual output from Megatron. Kendall Wright helped with 12 the Rams scored 10, but neither was enough. My team unloaded 7 weeks of frustration by finally fulfilling their potential. Kaep led the way with 25, Flash Gordon posted 21, Zac Stacy had 14 before being injured, Antonio Brown tallied 12 and the 49ers kicked in 11 points to boot. Luke would now need some help to clinch the division title.

Final Score: Escaped Lunatics 106 Deathtongue 65

Joel looked to stay within reach of his brother for the Division crown going up against Nick B who left two players in on a BYE. That didn't matter as Cam Newton led all scorers with 22, Jason Witten added 14 and Mendenhall put up 12. Joel hit near rock bottom with his QB getting benched and four players scoring 0 or fewer points (Stevan Ridley I'm looking at your butter covered fingers). Now Joel is just looking for a playoff spot and that is in doubt. Nick B stays alive.

Final Score: The Knacks 64 Nikachu 39

Two of the league's hottest teams not named (Biggums' 'Basers) squared off in what turned out to be a disappointing affair. Drew Brees was the games top scorer with 21 for John who was looking to win his 5th straight while Nate got 17 from Danny Woodhead as he was looking to win his seventh game in eight tries. Johns' next best was Brandon Marshall with 13 while Nate got 11 from Nick Novak. John countered with 10 from Gostkowski so it came down to RGIII on MNF. He needed 23 to win for Nate and mustered just 7 points. The streak lives on for John. With the losses by Nate and Joel, Luke clinches the Back Wall Division!!

Final Score: The Situation 59 The Bounchers 44

Now the door was open for Matt to climb right back into the thick of the playoff chase in the Back Wall Division as he drew Jody who, record aside, is playing much better ball now. This continued as Jody got 35 from Philip RIvers and 18 from MJD to pace the way. Matt got 16 from Eli Manning, 15 from Fitz and 11 from the Broncos D, but couldn't keep pace as Jody as now won 3 of 4 after starting 0-8 like Tampa Bay!!

Final Score: DoggNutz 83 Rainbows & Puppies 66

Adam, if he hadn't done so yet, clinched everything this week with his 8th straight win. He dominated Nick G with 27 from Brady, 25 from Charles, 18 from the Steelers D and 10 from Pierre Thomas. Nick G got 18 from AP, 15 from Andrew Luck and 10 from Rashad Jennings. Even with the loss, Nick G is in the playoffs, but a big congrats goes to Adam for winning the regular season!

Final Score: Biggums' 'Basers 94 The Lollipop Kids 61

Ben needed a win to get into the drivers seat for the overall #3 seed against Mike. In a rare bit of fantasy karma, Mike finally went up against a dud of an opponent. Only Peyton Manning and his 14 points went into double figures for the Wands who were anything but Magic. Mike got 15 from Matt Ryan, 14 from Andre Brown, 12 from Jimmy Graham and 10 from Greg the Leg to win going away and keep his season alive. Ben is safely in the playoffs though, even with the loss.

Final Score: Bookoo Barbarians 65 The Magic Wands 43

Last game...but top scoring team of the week! Ike went off on Alex...poor poor Alex having to take a beating while working in St. Thomas. Ike keeps his slim playoff hopes alive behind an explosion of points. 28 from Knowshon, 25 from Alex Smith, 20 each from Lacy and Tavon Austin and 12 each from Gronk and the Ravens. He earns $10 for his troubles and for Myra.

Final Score: Myra's College Fund 123 Worthless Peons 50

Standings Through Week 12:

Biggums' 'Basers (Adam) 11-1 (Clinched #1 Overall Seed...Critter Corner Champ)
Deathtongue (Luke) 7-4-1 (Clinched #2 Overall Seed...Back Wall Champ)
Lollipop Kids (Nick G) 8-4 (Clinched playoff spot, #3 seed w/ win or Ben loss...wins H2H tiebreaker)
The Magic Wands (Ben) 8-4 (Clinched playoff spot, #3 or #4 seed, loses H2H tiebreak with Nick G)
----------------------------
The Situation (John) 6-6 (Win and in against Joel)
Nikachu (Joel) 6-6 (Win and in against John)
The Bounchers (Nate) 6-6 (Win and in against Matt)
----------------------------
The Knacks (Nick B) 5-6-1
Rainbows & Puppies (Matt) 5-7
Escaped Lunatics (Jason) 5-7
Booboo Barbarians (Mike) 5-7
Myra's College Fund (Ike) 5-7
-----------------------------
The Worthless Peons (Alex) 3-9
DoggNutz (Jody) 3-9

Joel and John control their own destiny for the 5 seed (or potential 6 seed if Nate wins...I'll figure that out later)....loser is eliminated (points) I believe barring somehow only 2 teams finishing 6-7 and they win H2H

Scenarios for the non 6 win teams.....

If Nate wins they're all eliminated simple as that.

Nick B: Win and Nate loses and in with the 1/2 game tiebreak)
Mike: Win and Nate and Nick B lose and in (unless I outscore him by 29 points and my tiebreakers come through)
Jason: Win and Nate and Mike lose (or outscore him by 29+ points (I'd beat Nick) AND not have Ike outscore me by 13 points.
Ike: Nate lose...Win (over Mike), I beat Nick B and Ike outscores me by 13 points
Matt: Is eliminated, but controls the fate for everyone above

Schedule for Week 13:

Adam 11-1 vs Alex 3-9 (Nothing matters)
Luke 7-4-1 vs Nick G 8-4 (only important to Nick G)
Ben 8-4 vs Jody 3-9 (only important to Ben)
John 6-6 vs Joel 6-6 (Father v Son Win and in; Lose and out; Happy Thanksgiving!!! Game of the Week)
Nate 6-6 vs Matt 5-7 (Nate win and in, Matt win and fun happens!)
Nick 5-6-1 vs Jason 5-7 (Elimination game at best for each)
Ike 5-7 vs Mike 5-7 (Same boat as Nick B v Jason...win and need help)

So yeah....Go Matt...but no thanks for those two losses by 7 total points all the good it did you!

Happy Thanksgiving to all, but the Hardi household should be fun come Sunday!

FCNPFFL: Week 11 Results

I probably use this line every year around this time, but.....'And down the stretch they go'. While our top five teams seem pretty set in stone, barring an unwelcome three game losing streak, we had at least seven teams vying for the final playoff spot. You know how they say, 'Gotta be in it to win it.'

Your weekly friendly reminder about THURSDAY NIGHT football takes us to the NFC South as ATLANTA and NEW ORLEANS square off.

On a bright note...this upcoming week marks the final week of BYE WEEKS. This week CINCINNATI, SEATTLE, BUFFALO and PHILADELPHIA get to take a some time to heal.

This league has no trading deadline, but still requires a 48 hour voting window. Feel free to make some trades.

Onto the games:

I had my final shot at salvaging my season against Nate. I got the jump with two long TDs from Antonio Brown who scored 21 points, but Nate took control shortly thereafter behind fill-in RB Bobby Rainey who scored three times and amassed 34 points. He also got 17 from fellow Bucs player Vincent Jackson and ran away behind 29 from RGIII. With 11 from the Bears D and 10 from Nick Novak, Nate secured $10 for top scoring team of the week as his run to the playoffs continues.

Who likes kissing their sister?? Apparently Luke and Nick B do because as of now...they're tied. (Of course CBS and the NFL could add/subtract a point on Wednesday...who knows). Luke continues to ride his Stafford/Megatron combo as they combined for 60 total points. Nick B got 24 from Michael Floyd and 12 from the Seahawsk D, but needed a huge night from Cam Newton to get back into the game. Newton tallied 28 points and left the game knotted at 83. Nick B failed to replace his TE who was on a BYE week while his backup TE scored a single point on the bench. Oh what could have been for the Knacks.

Final Score: Deathtongue 83 The Knacks 83

Matt needed a win (like everyone else), but he was going up against a suddenly hot squad coached by John. This was another nail biter. Matt saw Nick Foles stay hot with 24 points and he got 10 from Fitz while John was led by Drew Brees with 18. Chris Ivory added 15 and Delanie Walker put up 12 way back on Thursday. Going into MNF John trailed by just a point but he had the Panthers strong D and Pats kicker Stephen Gostkowski while Matt had Panthers TE Greg Olsen. This game stayed tight throughout as Olsen scored, the Panthers D held NE in check, but when they scored it was from the foot of Gostkowski. A very muddled affair. When the dust settled, John emerged with a two point victory.

Final Score: The Situation 64 Rainbows & Puppies 62

Ben and Joel met in what appeared to be a great game on paper even with Joel missing Aaron Rodgers. Ben was led by Marshawn Lynch with 23 who has been equally as valuable as his QB Peyton Manning who mustered 'just' 18 points. Joel got 17 from backup QB Jason Campbell and 13 from Ryan Mathews. Unfortunately for Joel he had no other double digit scorers while Ben got 16 from Dan Carpenter. His last chance with his two Patriots came up woefully short as Ridley and Dobson were held to just 10 total points when he needed at least 28.

Final Score: The Magic Wands 81 Nikachu 63

Ho-hum another week and another win for Adam. He was led by the Bengals D who scored 21. Ike got 20 from Russell Wilson and 11 from Garrett Hartley. His WR combo of AJ Green and Riley Cooper went drastically cold, scoring only 2 total points (Josh Gordon had 20...inside joke y'all). On MNF  Ike had Gronk left, but Adam still had Brady and a six point lead. Unless everything went to Gronk Adam was going to win. Brady 17, Gronk 9.

Final Score: Biggums' 'Basers 74 Myra's College Fund 60

Nick G went to the church of Mike and was rewarded with a strong scoring week. Oh Mike how giving you are. Nick G got 27 from Rashad Jennings, 20 from Andrew Luck and 12 from Steven Hauschka to roll easily over Mike even with 23 from Shady McCoy and 22 from Matt Ryan.

Final Score: Lollipop Kids 90 Bookoo Barbarians 68

Jody continues to play hard down the stretch as he dominated Alex this week. He got 20 from a resurgent CJ2K and 17 from Philip Rivers along with a well balanced 5-8 points from his other six players. Alex got 16 from Matt Forte, 14 from the Bills D, but a big fat 0 from Geno Smith who matched Tony Romo while Romo was probably chillin' on a Caribbean island somewhere with a cold drink in hand.

Final Score: DoggNutz 77 The Worhless Peons 55

Standings after Week 11:

FCNPFFL: Week 10 Results

Okay quick recap today because I'm swamped with stuff to do at work and couldn't get anything done this morning before work with Jessica laid up.

We still have BYE WEEKS this week with: DALLAS and ST. LOUIS taking the week off.

Of course there is a THURSDAY night game...this week we get INDIANAPOLIS and TENNESSEE.

Note from last weeks games: The Ravens lost a sack after further review and thus I lost a point, lost my tie to Matt and lost the game. Fun.

Onto the games:

My free falling squad took on Joel who was without Aaron Rodgers as he kindly tried to level the playing field. Everything was going fine as I got 13 from Le'Veon Bell and 12 from Zac Stacy but he took the lead for good after Julius Thomas posted 18 while Ryan Mathews and the Cardinals D added 11 each in the afternoon.

Final Score: Nikachu 74 Escaped Lunatics 61

Luke looked to stay on top of the Critter Corner Division against Matt who was riding high after winning on Wednesday. He got 28 points from the suddenly hot Nick Foles and 10 from Reggie Bush. It wasn't enough though as Luke stormed back with 38 from his Stafford/Megatron connection and 13 from Gio.

Final Score: Deathtongue 71 Rainbows & Puppies 61

Don't look now, but Nate is making a charge to the playoffs. He busted up Nick B this week who is in his own free fall at the moment. RGIII led all scorers in this game with 30 and he was helped by DeMarco Murray and Andre Johnson who added 14 each. Nick B was led by his kicker, Phil Dawson, with 11 and that is never a good sign.

Final Score: The Bounchers 67 The Knacks 32

Another week...another victory for Adam. Even without Tom Brady he still rolled as he turned to Case Keenum who put up 21 points. Just when Mike tightened things up with 15 from LeSean McCoy and 13 from Matt Ryan...Adam got a boost from another backup as Pierre Thomas stepped right in with Run DMC and Jamaal Charles out to score 21 points. Sometimes it's your year.

Final Score: Biggums' 'Basers 68 Bookoo Barbarians 51

After Jody earned his first victory, he was hoping to start a winning streak against Nick G who had begun to stumble. Nope, sorry, didn't happen. Nick G put it all together and blasted Jody and also earned $10 as top scoring team of the week. AP got it started with 19, Steven Haushcka added 19 of his own, Andrew Luck put up 18 and DeSean Jackson added 17. Jody got 14 from Philip Rivers, 13 from Marques Colston and 12 from MJD in a losing effort.

Final Score: Lollipop Kids 97 DoggNutz 61

Ben and Ike met in a game that turned out to be just a 1 point affair. Peyton Manning obviously led the way in this game as he scored 34 points for Ben and Marshawn Lynch added 21. Ike got 24 from his Seahawk, Russell Wilson and  22 from AJ Green, but left Riley Cooper and his 18 points on the bench. He also saw his kicker not even step on the field. Even though Ben left Kyle Rudolph active again and Lamar Miller failed to increase his one point advantage on MNF, he secured a close win.

Final Score: The Magic Wands 83 Myra's College Fund 82

As noted in our league poll, John earned his 3rd straight victory as he destroyed Alex. Drew Brees and his 39 points almost outscored Alex alone as he mustered just 42 total points. John also got 21 from Brandon Marshall. Alfred Morris led the way for Alex with 13.

Final Score: The Situation 71 Worthless Peons 42

Standings after Week 10:

Back Wall Division:

Biggums' 'Basers (Adam) 9-1 (#1 Seed Overall) (Clinched Playoff spot)
Lollipop Kids (Nick G) 7-3 (T-#3 Seed)
Magic Wands (Ben) 7-3 (T-#3 Seed)
Bookoo Barbarians (Mike) 4-6
Myra's College Fund (Ike) 4-6
The Worthless Peons (Alex) 3-7
DoggNutz (Jody) 1-9

Critter Corner Division:

Deathtongue (Luke) 7-3 (#2 Seed)
Nikachu (Joel) 6-4 (#5 Seed)
Rainbows & Puppies (Matt) 5-5 (T-#6 Seed)
The Bounchers (Nate) 5-5 (T-#6 Seed)
Escaped Lunatics (Jason) 4-6
The Knacks (Nick B) 4-6
The Situation (John) 4-6

Week 11 Schedule:

Adam 9-1 vs Ike 4-6
Luke 7-3 vs Nick B 4-6
Nick G 7-3 vs Mike 4-6
Ben 7-3 vs Joel 6-4 (Game of the Week)
Matt 5-5 vs John 4-6
Nate 5-5 vs Jason 4-6
Alex 3-7 vs Jody 1-9

All five of the 4-6 teams have a chance to be mathematically in the playoffs with a win this week. How awesome would a 7-way 5-6 chase for the final playoff spot be with just two weeks to go???

FCNPFFL: Week 9 Results

Well....at least the weeks of six teams being off are done. Raise your hand if you had Peyton Manning and Nick Foles throwing for seven TDs in a game this season. That was simply ridiculous on Sunday, and not just because I happened to be facing Foles. As for the Redskins...I know everyone thought that both Roy Helu Jr. and Darrel Young would score 3 rushing TDs in a game this season before Alfred Morris. Andre Johnson also notched a hat trick of scores following a nine game scoreless streak for him. We all knew it would be Case Keenum that would be on the other end of those receptions as well.

Yeah it was a crazy week. It's basically the norm for fantasy football come November and then when December hits, it goes all bat sh*t crazy. We end up starting one stud RB paired with a former practice squad member in a championship game. But we'll get to that later. First we have to get through November.

Finally a THURSDAY night game with two 2012 playoff teams...that now aren't as good. WASHINGTON and MINNESOTA get some prime time love this week.

The teams are on a BYE WEEK IN WEEK 10 are: NEW ENGLAND, CLEVELAND, KANSAS CITY and NEW YORK JETS.

Now the fun part...the games:

Matt was without Eli Manning this week as he faced me. I can only imagine the back and forth thought process he went through deciding on whether to throw a slightly concussed Nick Foles out there or to stick with the Super Bowl champion quarterback Joe Flacco. He chose wisely. Foles scored 53 points behind his 7 TD passes, but luckily for me I didn't get run out of the building. I had a well balanced attack with five double digit scorers led by Zac Stacy and his 27 points. I somehow held a 14 point lead despite Foles' heroics as Matt still had his two RBs left to play. Trent Richardson continued to struggle with just 4 points on Sunday night, setting up James Starks to play hero or goat on MNF. Officially he was neither. He scored 9 points on his first touch of the game and added one more the rest of the way forcing a tie.

Final Score: Escaped Lunatics 89 Rainbows & Puppies 89

In yet another Hardi on Hardi battle, this game saw first place Luke take on his dad, John. It has been a season to forget for dad, but this week he brought the full force of his team and needed it all to keep pace with his son. On Thursday, Luke got 20 points from Gio to get rolling. John answered back with 29 from Drew Brees, 19 from Chris Ivory, 14 from the Panthers D and 10 from Garrett Hartley. Luke got 12 from Gostkowski and 10 from LeGarrette Blount, but trailed by 23 with Josh McCown left to play...but unfortunately John still had Brandon Marshall. Luke got 23 from McCown while Marshall tallied 13 as John hung on.

Final Score: The Situation 95 Deathtongue 82

So with nobody wanting to win a game atop the Critter Corner Division, Joel looked to stay hot against Nate. This game was decided by injuries. Early on neither team did much of anything as RGIII gave Nate 14 points while Keenan Allen responded with 14 of his own for Joel. Then the sun set and everything got crazy. Joel saw his two Patriots combine for 47 points in the late afternoon only to be nearly matched by the 39 points that Andre Johnson scored Sunday night. This offset the loss of Arian Foster for Nate who was injured without scoring a point. Joel trailed, but basically had the game wrapped up as he only needed 13 points from Aaron Rodgers and Mason Crosby. Well when Rodgers went down hard on the opening drive for the Packers, everything changed. Rodgers never returned, finishing with just a single point. Crosby did his part scoring 7, but Joel fell just short.

Final Score: The Bounchers 79 Nikachu 74

Did Nick B want to take advantage of the disaster week in the Critter Corner Division? All he had to do was beat the current #1 seed, Adam, while failing to change his lineup leaving three players (of 8) in who were on their BYE week. Not the best strategy. Of those who played, Nick B had some success with 22 from Cam Newton, 14 from Danny Amendola, 13 from CJ Spiller and 12 from Jason Witten. Adam couldn't get much of anything going. Darren McFadden was injured...again. Jamaal Charles was held in check. But then Tom Brady became Tom Brady. He amassed 41 points and all of a sudden we had a game. Down six with two Bears left, things were looking good for Adam and after Robbie Gould connected with his second chip shot of the night late in the game, the victory was sealed. A missed opportunity for sure for Nick B.

Final Score: Biggums' 'Basers 67 The Knacks 64

Our top scoring team of the week was in the game pitting Ben against Alex. I'll give you a hint...it wasn't from the team that started the Raiders defense against Nick Foles and his seven touchdown passes. Six would've been fine Raiders..thanks for nothing you douches. Outside of that mistake, Alex did have a good scoring week from Romo (23) Forte (21) and Alf (18). Ben topped that easily. He got 32 each from Big Ben and TY Hilton, 13 from Marshawn Lynch and 11 from Pierre Garcon to win and take home $10 for his troubles.

Final Score: The Magic Wands 118 The Worthless Peons 74

Ike and Nick G played a real fun game that wasn't decided until the final moments of the MNF game. Nick G got out of the gate with 22 from Adrian Peterson, but Ike responded with 25 from Russell Wilson and 15 from Gronk. Then Nick G got a solid 30 point effort from Andrew Luck to set up Monday night. He had Jordy Nelson and the Packers D left and a 13 point lead while Ike had just Eddie Lacy. Jordy caught an early pass as a big night seemed inevitable, but he was hampered the rest of the way after Aaron Rodgers went down. Meanwhile without a stout passing game, the Packers ran the ball and ran some more. Lacy nearly put the game out of reach with a 56 yard run coming up a yard short of a bonus touchdown, but settled for a 1 yr score. The Packers D had a miserable time slowing down the Bears and ended with just 2 points while Nelson mustered just 4 points. Lacy ran wild and finished with 21 points as Ike escaped with a two point victory.

Final Score: Myra's College Fund 77 The Lollipop Kids 75

Last and certainly not least was the game between Mike and Jody. This has been a year to forget for Jody sitting at 0-8 while Mike was just hoping his struggles would continue one more week. Jody left two players in his lineup that didn't play so Mike had to be feeling good. Then the games started. Chris Johnson led the way for Jody with 28 points and Philip Rivers chipped in 24 as well. Tony G and Ryan Succop each added 11 points as Jody surged ahead. Mike had a good showing as well with 25 from Jimmy Graham, 15 from Nick Folk, 12 from LeSean McCoy and 11 from Matt Ryan. He was down just five point with Jarrett Boykin left to play on MNF. Jody had to feel the inevitable was ready to occur, but thanks to the Aaron Rodgers injury...again....another team fell short. Mike only got a single point from Boykin and Jody earned victory #1.

Final Score: DoggNutz 82 Bookoo Barbarians 78

FCNPFFL: Week 8 Results

Did you survive? With six teams off this week and injuries always mounting, it's difficult to piece together a quality fantasy team. Add to the fact that this is a 14 team league and we're lucky if we're starting actual starters. This game we play is not easy.

It doesn't stop. We have six more teams off and yet another fun filled Thursday night game to get things started in Week 9. This weeks teams include some high flying offenses which should bring the scoring down a bit.

The THURSDAY night game is between CINCINNATI and MIAMI.

BYE WEEKS FOR WEEK 9: DENVER, SAN FRANCISCO, DETROIT, JACKSONVILLE, ARIZONA AND NEW YORK GIANTS

Onto the games:

I promised a fire sale and I did what I wanted. I started six new players against Joel this week and guess what...it all went wrong! Who ever would have thought that? I jumped out behind Colin Kaepernick who continued to be a 1st half monster as he tallied 29 points. The 49ers D added 10, but the rest of my team went to sleep. I did leave some juicy points on the bench and other peoples rosters so there's that. Joel gave me every opportunity to win as he had three guys post 0's and another score just 1 point. Stevan Ridley scored 13 and Cardinals D added 11, but Joel was still 39 points short with three players playing Sunday night. Aaron Rodgers did his part scoring 29, but it all came down to Mason Crosby who had 10 points as he lined up a needless 45 yard FG late in the fourth quarter. Tied at 64-64 the outcome was on the line. Make it: Joel wins, Miss it: I win. He made it.

Final Score: Nikachu 68 Escaped Lunatics 64

Just like in real life where Tony Romo and Matt Stafford put on a show,  Alex (Romo) and Luke (Stafford) also put on a show. While the rest of the league struggled to put together any type of quality scoring, these two went off. There were 10 total double digit scorers and two of the top three highest score totals of the week. On the field, Stafford edged Romo, in this game it was the same with Stafford putting up 33 and Romo scoring 30. Both had a big running effort as Luke had the edge again with Gore narrowing out Alf 17-15. Alex won the battle of the kickers 17-10 but Luke took home the D edge 10-8. It all came down to the WRs. Alex had a decent effort from Wes Welker with 11 and Luke got 13 from Emmanuel Sanders. All nice and well...but holy hell did you see Megatron?? Luke went back to his dominant Lions combination of Stafford and Calvin Johnson and witnessed the WR haul in 329 yards and a TD which was good for 25 points. All together his two Lions amassed 58 points. Wowza. Luke again takes home $10 which I believe he owes at least 25% of that to the good city of Detroit (gotta start somewhere to re-build).

Final Score: Deathtongue 114 The Worthless Peons 92

In a tale of two worlds, Adam has been rolling right along while Jody can't catch a break. Without his one shining star, Philip Rivers, things didn't look good for Jody to earn win #1 on the season. That's when Andy Dalton took it upon himself to give his team a chance. He threw five TDs en route to 35 points and when Adam's QB, Tom Brady, scuffled to just 8, things got interesting. Jody also had good days from Ryan Succop who booted in 12, Demaryius Thomas who tallied 11 and MJD who had a solid 10 points. Adam flexed his muscles and showed his well balanced team in his attempt to win. With some help from his one Bengals player(s) the defense mustered 21 points, Run DMC put up 19, Terrance Williams hauled in 16 and Jamaal Charles stayed quiet but still scored 10. Vernon Davis and Matt Prater added a combined 17 and Adam kept on winning while Jody kept on losing.

Final Score: Biggums' 'Basers 93 DoggNutz 78

Nick G was looking to break his pesky 2 game losing streak, but it wouldn't be easy against fellow division mate Ben and his high flying Mannings. Peyton did his duty compiling 28 points against the worthless Redskins D, but his six other Sunday players scored just 29 points. Nick G got 26 from Jordy Nelson, 17 from Mike Glennon and 13 from AP on Sunday night to build a 11 point lead. With only Steven Hauschka left for Nick G and Marshawn Lynch left for Ben, nothing had been decided. Seattle as a whole laid an egg on MNF including Lynch and Hauschka who scored two points apiece. Good enough for Nick G.

Final Score: The Lollipop Kids 71 The Magic Wands 59

Ike and Mike....aw who am I kidding now that it's near Halloween...Mike and Ike tangled in a pretty good battle. Mike continue to score points with 22 from Dez Bryant, 14 from Jimmy Graham and 16 from Matt Ryan. Ike countered with 31 from his RB tandem of Eddie Lacy and Knowshon Moreno (wow Ike I just realized you depend on a Bama and UGA boy...for shame you Auburn grad). He still trailed by 27 with just Russell Wilson left. After a slow start Wilson threw a TD pass and then he connected on an 80 yard bomb to cut the lead to just 8 points. Then Seattle went dormant again and Ike got stuck.

Final Score: Bookoo Barbarians 80 Myra's College Fund 72

More MNF drama during a surprisingly good game. John and Nick B battled and this was quite unsightly save for the QB play. There were 114 total points scored in this game and 70 of them came from Drew Brees and Cam Newton. On the other side there were eight players who totaled 3 points! Yikes. John had the better QB and the only other double digit performer in DeAngelo Williams so he won. Nick had a chance with Seattle's D on Monday, but they came up 6 points short.

Final Score: The Situation 60 The Knacks 54

You remember how Matt bottomed out last week with just 26 points?? Well I guess Nate felt sorry for him and returned the favor against him...and then some. Nate had nobody exceed six points en route to just 20 team points! Matt got 15 from Reggie Bush, 14 from the Broncos D and 12 from Eli Manning to win easily.

Final Score: Rainbows & Puppies 53 The Bounchers 20

Standings after Week 8:

Back Wall Division:

Biggums' 'Basers (Adam) 7-1 (#1 Overall Seed)
Lollipop Kids (Nick G) 6-2 (#3 Overall Seed)
The Magic Wands (Ben) 5-3 (#4 Overall Seed)
Bookoo Barbarians (Mike) 4-4 (T-#6 Overall Seed)

The Knacks (Nick B) 4-4 (T-#6 Overall Seed)
Escaped Lunatics (Jason) 4-4 (T-#6 Overall Seed)
Rainbows & Puppies (Matt) 4-4 (T-#6 Overall Seed)
The Bounchers (Nate) 3-5
The Situation (John) 2-6

Week 9 Schedule:

Adam 7-1 vs. Nick B 4-4
Nick G 6-2 vs. Ike 3-5 (Game of the Week)
Luke 6-2 vs. John 2-6
Ben 5-3 vs. Alex 3-5
Joel 5-3 vs. Nate 3-5
Jason 4-4 vs Matt 4-4
Mike 4-4 vs Jody 0-8

A very insteresting set of games where once again the favorites have full chance to run away and hide from the teams behind them. This league could also get really interesting if we see some upsets.

FCNPFFL: Week 7 Results

Sorry for the delay this week. I had the day off and with my mother over to watch baby Nick I was thrust into errand after errand after errand. Included in that was finally getting a new laptop as my other one finally bit the dust. So after spending all day loading everything onto it and bookmarking all my favorite fantasy football websites I'm ready to type just in time to get some dinner.

Thursday night brings us another fabulous game between CAROLINA and TAMPA BAY.

Week 8 also marks the biggest Bye Week of them all with six teams missing in action.

BYE WEEKS FOR WEEK 8: HOUSTON, BALTIMORE, INDIANAPOLIS, CHICAGO, SAN DIEGO AND TENNESSEE...adjust accordingly.

Onto this weeks slate of action:

First up was a battle for at least a share of first place in the Critter Corner Division between Luke and I. This was no contest. Behind the dynamic duo of Matt Stafford and Calvin Johnson, Luke scored more than enough to win. His two Lions roared for 61 combined points and just for fun (well $10 in this case) he also got 21 from Frank Gore and 10 each from his two Patriots (defense and kicker). I was led by Colin Kaepernick who scored 21 but lost Doug Martin for the season along the way. Congrats to Luke on top scoring team of the week.

Final Score: Deathtongue 109 Escaped Lunatics 60

Nick B needed a win to keep pace with Luke as he went up against Nate. This was a blowout as well. The key to Nick's season (just like many others, but his in particular) is keeping his starting lineup healthy. Without Danny Amendola again and CJ Spiller still banged up, Nick was already at a disadvantage. He also lost Cam Newton for a short bit during his game as well. Newton did wind up with 16 points to lead his fantasy team, but Nate stole the show. He got 29 from a rejuvenated RGIII, 27 from Vincent Jackson, 12 from the Cowboys D, 11 from Danny Woodhead and 10 from Jermichael Finley (before losing him to injury). On the downside he also lost Arian Foster to an injury which didn't cost him this game, but probably $10.

Final Score: The Bounchers 101 The Knacks 48

Our 'game of the week' was our third 'dud of the week.' Adam took Matt behind the woodshed thanks in large part to one of the worst performances we usually see each year. When your top scorer has 7 points and you lose your starting QB to injury while your defense puts up negative points things aren't going your way. Adam needed little help as he had six players score between 10-16 points. It was a well balanced rout.

Final Score: Biggums' 'Basers 81 Rainbows & Puppies 26

Fresh off his first loss of the season, Nick G looked to rebound against Mike who was just hoping somebody would not have a career week against him. At least this one had a semblance of drama. Mike did his thing getting 25 from Matt Ryan, 12 from Fred Jackson and 11 from Robbie Gould. Meanwhile Nick G couldn't get anything going. His five early players put up a whopping 24 points, but then Andrew Luck got Nick G right back into the game Sunday night. He posted 31 points leaving Nick G down 18 with both his RBs left to play. Mike knew how this was going to end. But then something weird happened. Brandon Jacobs was ruled inactive leaving Nick G with just Adrian Peterson left to play. Still Mike had to be worried. MNF. AP. Versus the Giants. This was going to be ugly. It was ugly. The Vikings forgot that AP was the best player on the planet and passed the ball with horrible efficiency. AP scored just 3 points and Mike somehow survived a scoring explosion.

Final Score: Bookoo Barbarians 73 The Lollipop Kids 58

The third of the 5-1 Back Wall Division teams, Ben ran into a buzz saw this week as the blowouts continued. Ike authored this domination behind 22 from AJ Green, 21 from Russell Wilson, 15 from Eddie Lacy and 14 from Jordan Reed. Ben did get another great week from Peyton Manning who scored 30 and 15 from Marshawn Lynch, but it was more (or less) of the same from his remaining players. His others six players mustered just 12 points.

Final Score: Myra's College Fund 88 The Magic Wands 57

Jody was looking to break the curse of his worst season ever in the FCNPFFL against Alex this week, but it wound up being more of the same. Even with a decent scoring week behind 19 from CJ2K, 18 from Philip Rivers and 11 from Demaryius Thomas, he still didn't stand a chance. Alex got 3 TDs from Matt Forte en route to 34 points, 17 from Tony Romo, 13 from the Chargers D and 10 from Steve Smith to win going away.

Final Score: The Worthless Peons 94 DoggNutz 71

Our last game of the week was yet another Hardi on Hardi battle this time a father/son affair as John took on Joel. As was the story of the week, this was not a competitive game. John was led by Ryan Tannehill who posted 17 and he got 13 from the Panthers D, but just 15 more points from his last six players. Joel got his normal 26 from Aaron Rodgers, but with two healthy and scoring RBs is now finding his groove. Ryan Mathews and Stevan Ridley combined for 28 points to assist Rodgers and get Joel his third consecutive victory.

This is shaping up to be moving week here in the FCNPFFL. Four of the seven games pit teams with identical records against each other. All four of the games are divisional matchups as well which just adds to the intrigue. This is the proverbial two game swing games with a ton of players on Bye and injured...wheeeee!

FCNPFFL: Week 6 Results

Nearly halfway through another regular season and things are now starting to get interesting. Players are dropping like flies, Bye Weeks are in full swing and even the best players look human (Jimmy Graham, 0 catches and an injury). Let the trading begin! Don't be a fool and sit on Randall Cobb only to watch him break his leg and cost you a win. Trade your players! Stupid Jason.

As always there is a THURSDAY game this week between SEATTLE and ARIZONA.

BYE WEEKS FOR WEEK 7: NEW ORLEANS and OAKLAND

Onto the games:

There were two games of note with four of the five best records squaring off. One lived up to the advanced hype while the game between Ben and I was a dud. Sure it was close, but the scoring was much lower than expected. None of our players scored in double figures in the 1pm games which was bad news for me as I still had to face Peyton Manning. That turned out to be a non-issue as Colin Kaepernick outscored Manning 22-17. What kept Ben in the lead was the 24 point performance from Marshawn Lynch. My hopes were resting on Dez Bryant and when he was somehow shutdown by the Redskins, Ben had secured a victory.

Final Score: The Magic Wands 62 Escaped Lunatics 58

Our final undefeated team coached by Nick G went to war in a high scoring affair against Adam.  This game was good and it contained our top scoring team of the week to boot. Fresh off the scrap heap, Nick G added Brandon Jacobs and he rumbled for 22 points. He turned out to be the highest scoring player for Nick G this week. He did get 35 total points from his DeSean Jackson/Jordy Nelson combo as well. Adam was led by Vernon Davis who had a monster 1st half en route to 30 fantasy points. Jamaal Charles continued his solid season with 22 points and Tom Brady pulled a rabbit out of the hat late to score 17 points. Down 20, Nick G looked to be in great shape with both Andrew Luck and Antonio Gates yet to play. Unfortunately they both bombed greatly under the lights of MNF combining for just 11 points and Nick G was dealt his first defeat. Adam walks away with $10 and becomes the first repeat high scorer of the season.

Final Score: Biggums' 'Basers 97 The Lollipop Kids 88

Another great game that wasn't decided until late Monday night saw Luke looking to take a full game lead in the Critter Corner Division against Matt who was looking to creep within a game of first. Each team had good games and flat out disappointments scattered within their lineups.  Matt Stafford won the QB battle for Luke outscoring Joe Flacco 27-23. Matt got 17 from Fitz and 16 from Reggie Bush while Luke got 13 from Gostkowski, 12 from Gio and 10 from Gore. Luke saw Megatron struggle again scoring just a single point, but the was one more point than fellow WR James Jones scored as he left injured. Matt got 1 point from TE Greg Olsen who outscored Torrey Smith who was stuffed this week going scoreless. When the dust settled, Matt trailed by 3 points with Trent Richardson left to play. Easy win?? No of course not. TRich struggled all night and late into the 3rd quarter still had just one fantasy point. Then he got loose on one drive to put together three more points and Matt escaped with a one point win.

Final Score: Rainbows & Puppies 71 Deathtongue 70

Nick B looked to continue his good start to the season (when healthy) as he took on struggling John. Cam Newton lit up the scoreboard for Nick B tallying 37 points which was one more point that John's top two players scored combined. He got 19 from Drew Brees and 17 from Brandon Marshall to keep things close. Nick B had the only other double digit scorer of the game as Phil Dawson kicked in 12 points as Nick B is now in a first place tie in the Critter Corner Division.

Final Score: The Knacks 75 The Situation 60

Poor Mike, how the schedule makers hat him such.  Joel finally put it all together this week, getting out all of his frustrations from the season so far. Aaron Rodgers had 24, Stevan Ridley returned to life with 21, Crosby booted in 15 and Ryan Mathews and Da Bears had 10 each. He came up just a point short of tying Adam for top scoring team of the week. Mike did get 22 from Big Ben and 12 each from LeSean McCoy and Robbie Gould, but fell well short of another high scoring opponent (Mike has given up more than 200 more points than Nick B so far through just 6 weeks!!!).

Final Score: Nikachu 96 Bookoo Barbarians 63

Nate and Alex played each other this week in a game that featured five of the 16 players coming from the horrid Cowboys vs Redskins game. Nate got 25 points and one injury from his two guys while Alex got 32 from his three players. Alex also got 11 from the Steelers D and 10 from Wes Welker, but Nate took over the game behind 19 from Vincent Jackson and 17 from Arian Foster.

Final Score: The Bounchers 81 The Worthless Peons 68

Was this weeks game against Ike rock bottom for Jody this season? He again struggled even with MJD finally scoring and putting up 13 points. He had a trio of 0 point scorers and Philip Rivers was held in check with 15. Ike took full advantage getting 26 from Knowshon Moreno, 18 from Russell Wilson and 12 from AJ Green to overcome the rare -4 defense scoring that the Texans suffered.

Final Score: Myra's College Fund 73 DoggNutz 41

Standings through Week 6:

Back Wall Division:

The Magic Wands (Ben) 5-1
Biggums' 'Basers (Adam) 5-1
The Lollipop Kids (Nick G) 5-1
Bookoo Barbarians (Mike) 2-4
The Worthless Peons (Alex) 2-4
Myra's College Fund (Ike) 2-4
DoggNutz (Jody) 0-6

Critter Corner Division:

Deathtongue (Luke) 4-2
Escaped Lunatics (Jason) 4-2
The Knacks (Nick B) 4-2
Nikachu (Joel) 3-3
Rainbows & Puppies (Matt) 3-3
The Bounchers (Nate) 2-4
The Situation (John) 1-5

Week 7 Schedule:

Nick G 5-1 vs Mike 2-4 (Game of the Week)
Adam 5-1 vs Matt 3-3
Ben 5-1 vs Ike 2-4
Luke 4-2 vs Jason 4-2
Nick B 4-2 vs Nate 2-4
Joel 3-3 vs John 1-5
Alex 2-4 vs Jody 0-6

The three headed monster in the Back Wall Division all have a chance to go to 6-1. This race should be fun to watch all season. Luke and I battle for first while Nick B can stay with one of us.

FCNPFFL: Week 5 Results

Through four weeks this league was starting to break like a bad Hollandaise sauce. We still had three undefeated teams and five teams overall with just one loss or less. On the other side of the ledger we had six teams with one win or less including two without a win. Only six teams make the playoffs meaning we could be getting perilously close to having some of our league eliminated by Halloween. That would be awful. We have always prided ourselves in being pretty competitive with usually 10-12 teams still vying for the playoffs with a week or two remaining. I don't have the same feeling for this season.

Week 5 was a big week for this league. All the top teams were playing the current cellar dwellers. If we didn't act fast to get another Hollandaise sauce ready for plating, our final meal that is this season could be ruined.

As a reminder the NFL is bringing us more fun THURSDAY night action between the CHICAGO BEARS and the lowly NEW YORK GIANTS. This looked better on paper around Labor Day that is does now.

BYE WEEKS FOR WEEK 6: ATLANTA FALCONS and MIAMI DOLPHINS

Onto the action:

At 3-1 I had a chance to bury 1-3 Ike a little deeper in the league, but Ike was getting healthy just as I was without any running backs. Thursday night I took a lead behind Josh Gordon who posted 11. Ike answered back on Sunday with 25 from Russell Wilson and 18 from Ray Rice. I had a great effort from Justin Tucker who scored 17 but saw my RBs score just 4 points to leave me way behind. Then Dez Bryant took over. He scored 19 points and I drew nearly even with the Sunday night game left for us. We both had our defenses playing and the 49ers for me crushed the Texans for him as I ran away with the game with a 17-0 advantage in that category.

Final Score: Escaped Lunatics 84 Myra's College Fund 66

My win meant that Luke needed to beat his brother Joel this week to stay atop the Critter Corner Division and stay undefeated as well. We had another on the field QB battle squaring off in fantasy world as Joel had Aaron Rodgers going up against Matt Stafford for Luke. Joel won that category 21-17 thanks in large part to Luke losing Stafford's main squeeze Megatron who didn't play. Of course it was a Pyrrhic victory as James Jones scored 20 points nearly matching Rodgers. Joel was in trouble but he FINALLY got production from David Wilson who scored early only to lose him to injury! He did get another stellar performance from Julius Thomas who scored 20 points and newly acquired Austin Pettis tallied 15. Luke was now 17 back with just Frank Gore to play while Joel still had two players. It didn't look good. But Gore didn't go down quietly as he scored 14, but was benched as the 49ers were blowing out Houston. Joel had the game in hand...until Ryan Mathews got injured and scored 0 points. Nick Novak missed a field goal, leaving the door open, but recovered scoring just 3 points and knocked Luke off.

Final Score: Nikachu 71 Deathtongue 68

In another battle with on the field/fantasy world pairings, undefeated Ben took on one win Alex with Peyton Manning squaring off against Tony Romo. In the fantasy world, Romo out-dueled Manning 49-41, getting Alex back into the game after Ben was spotted a 17-0 lead thanks to the Browns D on Thursday. Ben had a trio of 10 points scorers as well, but Alex was able to keep pace with four guys scoring between 9-12 points. When the dust settled from this high scoring, back and forth affair, it was Alex that not only scored enough to knock of Ben, but he outscored the entire league and earned himself $10 (becoming the fifth different team to lead the league in scoring). Two undefeated teams down, one to go.

Final Score: Worthless Peons 103 The Magic Wands 94

Nick G created quite the stir when he traded away the bulk of his early picks in order to move up to #1 overall to draft Adrian Peterson. At 4-0 he looks like the smartest guy in the room. This week without AP it was up to Matt to even up the league by giving Nick G his first loss. Eli Manning had a decent day for Matt with 21 points, but only Caleb Sturgis also added double digits with just 10 points for the Puppies. Nick G didn't get the production from his backup backs without AP as Brandon Jacobs and Rashad Jennings mustered just 5 points. He did get 22 from Andrew Luck and 14 from DeSean Jackson to make this game incredibly close. After Antonio Gates scored 4 points Sunday night (along with the 4 from Jennings) Nick G had tied the game with his kicker left to play. Matt Bryant tallied 4 points as well on Monday night to keep the Lollipop Kids perfect through five weeks.

Final Score: The Lollipop Kids 62 Rainbows & Puppies 58

Adam was looking to rebound from his first loss of the season while Jody was just looking to notch win number one. Early Sunday Jody had two double digit scorers with 11 each from Chris Johnson and the Rams D. Adam did a bit better with three players topping that led by 17 from Matt Prater, 16 from Jamaal Charles and 12 from the Bengals D (who shut down his own QB, Tom Brady with just 8 points). When the sun set and the moon came out, Jody came to life with 25 from Philip Rivers and 12 from SeaBass to take the lead by six. Adam had two players left to just one from Jody and while Julio Jones and Tony Gonzalez were the biggest names, Jacquizz Rodgers stole the show scoring 17 points and leading Adam to a come from behind victory.

Final Score: Biggums' 'Basers 88 DoggNutz 77

On paper the high scoring squad coached by Mike looked to be a heavy favorite over the wildly inconsistent Nick B team, but that's why they play the games! With a healthy, full lineup Nick B came to play getting 18 from CJ Spiller (healthy enough), 14 from Jason Witten, 12 from Cam Newton and 10 from Rashard Mendenhall. Through Sunday's games, Mike had just a lone player hit double figures as LeSean McCoy netted just 13 points. He needed a Peyton Manning type effort from Matt Ryan to get back into this game, but Ryan scored just 21 points leaving him 15 short.

Final Score: The Knacks 78 Bookoo Barbarians 63

With one win combined in the meeting between Nate and John, its fitting this is the last game of the week to discuss. It did after all give us two of our three lowest scoring games of the week. John got 22 from Drew Brees and 12 from Nick Folk to outscore Nate who got 15 from Garrett Hartley and 10 each from Foster/Murray.

Final Score: The Situation 63 The Bounchers 50

Standings after Week 5:

Back Wall Division:

Lollipop Kids (Nick G) 5-0
Magic Wands (Ben) 4-1
Biggums' 'Basers (Adam) 4-1
Bookoo Barbarians (Mike) 2-3
Worthless Peons (Alex) 2-3
Myra's College Fund (Ike) 1-4
DoggNutz (Jody) 0-5

Critter Corner Division

Deathtongue (Luke) 4-1
Escaped Lunatics (Jason) 4-1
The Knacks (Nick B) 3-2
Nikachu (Joel) 2-3
Rainbows & Puppies (Matt) 2-3
The Situation (John) 1-4
The Bounchers (Nate) 1-4

Schedule for Week 6:

Nick G 5-0 vs Adam 4-1 (Game of the Week)
Ben 4-1 vs Jason 4-1
Luke 4-1 vs Matt 2-3
Nick B 3-2 vs John 1-4
Joel 2-3 vs Mike 2-3
Alex 2-3 vs Nate 1-4
Ike 1-4 vs Jody 0-5

Now this is a weekly schedule that could go a long way to determining our division winners. Four of the top five records squaring off.

FCNPFFL: Week 4 Results

Now we start to see separation. If your team is good, you know it. If your team is bad, you know it. The holes are apparent, your sleepers have either come through or are in a deep coma and it is time to shake things up. With injuries continuing to mount (welcome back DMC) and Bye Weeks up to four teams this week...it is time to PANIC!!! if you are struggling.

I for one will be looking to make a move, so feel free to reach out and say hello.

As always there is a Thursday night game and this week brings us the BILLS vs the BROWNS. Somebody got to the meeting late when it came time to choose that one.

BYE WEEKS FOR WEEK 5: WASHINGTON, PITTSBURGH, MINNESOTA and TAMPA BAY (extended vacation for Josh Freeman!)

The was no shortage of drama from Week 4 so let's get right to it:

Nate and I went down to the final seconds of MNF to decide our game. But before we get to that, I had three players on Thursday night and they got me a quick 26-0 lead. Arian Foster got Nate back into it with 20, but Jordan Cameron came through with 12 to extend my lead. RGIII for Nate and Dez Bryant for me canceled each other out and it left me with a slight 8 point lead heading into Monday night. Nate had Garrett Hartley left for the Saints and he kept creeping closer with each TD that they scored.  Down three points late in the night, Hartley lined up for a go ahead 43 yard FG and slid it wide left leaving Nate four back. He wound up getting a chip shot FG later, but it wasn't enough.

Final Score: Escaped Lunatics 71 The Bounchers 69

We had more exciting MNF drama between Mike and Alex thanks to those high flying Saints. Alex jumped out to a huge lead behind 22 from Matt Forte, 21 from Tony Romo, 19 from the Colts D and 17 from Wes Welker. He was in the running not only for a blowout victory, but top scoring team of the week. This would be fitting because Mike has been scored upon more times than (insert funny celebrity joke). Mike vented his frustrations as he trailed even with a 28 point effort from Matt Ryan and a 22 point effort from Victor Cruz. Needing 30 points to win he had Darren Sproles and Jimmy Graham left to play. They scored, scored, scored and scored again to combine for 37 points and Mike stole away a victory in the only way he can..scoring a ton of points.

Final Score: Bookoo Barbarians 107 The Worthless Peons 99

As for our four remaining undefeated teams. Ben and Adam locked horns both sitting at 3-0 looking to stay atop the Back Wall Division. Ben followed his weekly script which was to rely on the golden right arm of Peyton Manning who scored 32 more points. Marshawn Lynch added 16 and the Browns D pitched in 10 points. Adam has his own golden boy QB in Tom Brady who posted 23 points and his sidekick Jamaal Charles scored 16 while Matt Prater booted in 12. The other 5 guys for Adam notched 23 while Ben got 24 from his remaining players. So just like in real life, notch another victory to Peyton Manning as his top scoring performance carried Ben to 4-0.

Final Score: The Magic Wands 82 Biggums' 'Basers 74

Staying in the Back Wall Division where Nick G continued to score points at a blistering pace (without facing the schedule that Mike has faced). He took on Jody who was looking for win #1 and came out swinging. He got 35 from Philip Rivers, 21 from Tony G, 17 from Demaryius Thomas and 12 from Anquan Boldin. Unfortunately he saw his RB duo of CJ500 and MJD continue to struggle as they mustered just 4 total points. Nick G only had one RB score this week and Mr. Adrian Peterson scored 32 points. Andrew Luck helped out with 22, Antonio Gates scored 21, the Redskins D pitched in 15 and Matt Bryant gave Nick G his final cushion with 10.

Final Score: The Lollipop Kids 106 DoggNutz 90

Our last undefeated team, Luke, looked to stay alone in 1st in the Critter Corner Division against Nick B who has let his team fall apart without making any moves. Cam Newton didn't play as well as Danny Amendola again so this was basically a BYE Week for Luke. He did enough with 19 each from Matt Stafford and Frank Gore to win and go to 4-0.

Final Score: Deathtongue 73 The Knacks 30

Back to the high scoring. So we've had 107, 106, 99 and 90 points...but those all were beaten in the matchup between John and Matt. While John did have the top scoring player of the week in this game as Drew Brees torched the Dolphins for 36, the rest of his squad went MIA (see what I did there?). His other 7 players scored just 27 points. Matt got 21 from Reggie Bush, 20 from Flacco (even w/ 5 INT's), 17 from Torrey Smith, 16 from the Broncos D, 12 from TRich and 10 from LFitz to coast to a victory. It wasn't until the MNF game was well in hand that his two Dolphins got him an extra $10. A late TD by Charles Clay jumped Matt over everyone for top score of the week.

Final Score: Rainbows & Puppies 109 The Situation 63

Last up pitted winless Ike against one win Joel. Ike saw his kicker, David Akers, lead all scorers with 17 points and with assists from Knowshon Moreno (13) and 12 each from Russell Wilson and Reggie Wayne he got that first win. Joel saw Kembrell Thompkins lead his team with 14, but Stevan Ridley and David Wilson continue to drag him down. EJ Manuel proved to be a poor replacement for Aaron Rodgers as he scored just 8 points.

Final Score: Myra's College Fund 67 Nikachu 54

Standings after Week 4:

Back Wall Division

Lollipop Kids (Nick G) 4-0
Magic Wands (Ben) 4-0
Biggums' 'Basers (Adam) 3-1
Bookoo Barbarians (Mike) 2-2
Worthless Peons (Alex) 1-3
Myra's College Fund (Ike) 1-3
DoggNutz (Jody) 0-4

Critter Corner Division

Deathtongue (Luke) 4-0
Escaped Lunatics (Jason) 3-1
The Knacks (Nick B) 2-2
Rainbows & Puppies (Matt) 2-2
The Bounchers (Nate) 1-3
Nikachu (Joel) 1-3
The Situation (John) 0-4

Week 5 Schedule

Nick G 4-0 vs Matt 2-2 (Game of the Week)
Ben 4-0 vs Alex 1-3
Luke 4-0 vs Joel 1-3
Jason 3-1 vs Ike 1-3
Adam 3-1 vs Jody 0-4
Mike 2-2 vs Nick 2-2
Nate 1-3 vs John 0-4

A pretty ugly lineup where this league can split either further apart or get more competitive.

FCNPFFL: Week 3 Results

I hope everyone enjoyed that three week window of getting to start your full lineup without having to worry about Bye Weeks. Between Week 4 and Week 12 there will be at least two teams missing from the schedule. I say it every year, but this will be the time of the year will the depth of your team and your ability to make the proper waiver moves/trades will pay off.

And injuries...oh I can't forget the injuries.  They will still be around to throw a wrench into any best laid plan.

Thursday night marks yet another installment of night time football.  This week we will be treated to two struggling offenses/defenses when SAN FRANCISCO takes on ST. LOUIS.

BYE WEEKS for Week 4 are: GREEN BAY and CAROLINA

We had five 2-0 teams looking to go to 3-0 and with none of them playing each other it was a viable option.

The first team attempting to stay undefeated was Nick B who was my Week 3 opponent.  Cam Newton was the only player to show up for The Knacks this week as he scored 32 of the teams' 48 total points. CJ Spiller went down injured and Danny Amendola was still not replaced in the starting lineup.  On my side I had my own game day injury as Daryl Richardson re-aggravated his injury on the first play of the game holding him scoreless. Luckily TE Jordan Cameron has gone to the Norv Turner school of tight ends and come out valedictorian. He scored three touchdowns for 22 points and along with 13 from Justin Tucker and 10 from the Patriots D, I got just enough to overcome another shoddy outing by Colin Kaepernick.

Final Score: Escaped Lunatics 71 The Knacks 48

Adam sat 2-0 and on paper had the stiffest test going up against Mike who had already had weeks of scoring the most and second most points in the league. Unfortunately that left him 1-1, but certainly fired up to take down the 'Basers.  Adam was going to have none of that, knowing he needed to score a lot he got massive days from most everyone. Jamaal Charles was beat by LeSean McCoy heads up on Thursday 20-21, but the tone was set for Adam. He got 18 from Tom Brady, 17 from Matt Prater, 14 from Eric Decker, 13 from the Bengals D and 10 from a still healthy Darren McFadden.  Mike tried to keep pace as Jimmy Graham scored 20 and Matt Ryan tossed for 18, but his other five players scored just 4 total points. For the second week in a row Mike 'gave up' the most points and Adam takes home $10 and a 3-0 record for his troubles.

Final Score: Biggums' 'Basers 99 Bookoo Barbarians 63

Next up Ben had his chance to stay undefeated going up against a struggling squad from Jody who was looking for win #1. Through Sunday's games it was more of the same for both teams. Jody saw Philip Rivers be his top scorer with just 13 points and while MJD helped with 11 points, there wasn't much to be happy about. Ben had his top Sunday scorer be the Browns D with a paltry 9 points. Jody held a 40-28 lead with one game to be played...MNF. With only Peyton Manning left to play for Ben and Jody having one of his targets in Demaryius Thomas and the Raiders kicker, Sebastian Janikowski this looked to be headed down to the wire. The Peyton crushed the soul of Jody as he threw three 1st half TDs to everyone not named Demaryius. Even a Thomas caught one as Julius scored again, but Jody got left out of the party.  The Raiders also never attempted a field goal at the high elevation for SeaBass to show off.  All in all Ben outscored Jody 28-9 and took home his third victory.

Final Score: The Magic Wands 56 DoggNutz 49

It turned out the Nick G had the closest game of any of the 2-0 teams as he went toe to toe with win-less John this week.  Behind 36 points from Drew Brees and 12 from DeAngelo Williams, John took early control of the game. The Packers D scored 14 and AP ran for 13 to get Nick G started. In the afternoon, Andrew Luck scored 16 and Matt Bryant booted in 10 and suddenly Nick G took a slim lead. With just a five point lead and stud WR Brandon Marshall left to play for John, it certainly appeared that Nick G was going to be handed his first defeat. The Bears destroyed the Steelers on Sunday night scoring 40 points, but Marshall was basically a non-factor. He hauled in just 52 yards receiving good for just 3 points and John fell just short. For those keeping track at home...the big pre-draft trade now has Nick G at 3-0 while Mike is 1-2 even though Mike has scored 21 more points.

Final Score: The Lollipop Kids 72 The Situation 70

Last 2-0 team going this week was Luke who battled our defending champion Nate. Luke rode his Stafford/Megatron pairing again this week to the tune of 39 total points while Nate had the error prone RGIII on the other side score just 16 points (oh to have had that 57 yard TD back). Nate did get 24 points from the all or nothing DeMarco Murray and 10 from the Cowboys D. It must be killing a Redskins fan to have to watch Cowboys help his team so much. Luke countered with 14 each from Gio Bernard and Stephen Gostkowski to run away and hide. Luke makes it 4/5 teams to hit the 3-0 mark this week.

Final Score: Deathtongue 88 The Bounchers 66

Joel looked for win number one has he took on Matt who was without Reggie Bush and a benched Larry Fitzgerald. Matt also had his #1 draft pick, Trent Richardson, traded mid-week to add to the early season drama. His team responded poorly to all the troubles, especially Eli Manning who mustered just 5 points. Only his kicker scored double figures and as I've said for 15 years...that's never a good sign. Joel took advantage in this runaway win with 20 from the Bears D, 16 from Aaron Rodgers and 10 from his kicker Blair Walsh to get off the mat (pun intended) for his first win.

Final Score: Nikachu 64 Rainbows & Puppies 44

Our final game of the week pitted two 0-2 teams, Ike and Alex, against each other. Ike sat an injured Ray Rice, but had his backup Bernard Pierce and his starting QB Russell Wilson for backup Alex Smith to try and send a message that no job is safe. Pierce did well with 12 points, but Alex Smith got outscored by Wilson 24-16. Outside of those two, nobody else found double digits for Ike as his scoring slump continued. Alex had better success with his squad as Tony Romo got going with 22 points, Matt Forte scored 15, ALF had 13 and Wes Welker chipped in 11 on MNF to get Alex his first win.

Final Score: Worthless Peons 77 Myra's College Fund 52

Standings after Week 3:

Biggums' 'Basers (Adam) 3-0

Back to Back: 2013 Oakland Athletics

Last season I waxed poetic about my affinity for the 2012 version of the Oakland Athletics. It was partly due to them coming out of nowhere to win the A.L. West on the final day of the season in dramatic fashion. It was mainly due to the collection of players and the fun that they had on and off the field that won me over. You had the walk-offs with the pies, the 'Bernie lean' dance and Balfour rage. Off the field on the Twitter-verse it was the world of the McCarthy's, Brandon and Amanda, who kept fans in stitches with their witty repartee.

But that was last season. Gone were the McCarthy's. Gone was the element of surprise. After winning 94 games, nobody (including me) expected the 2013 Athletics to do it again. The Rangers appeared to take a step back as they lost slugger Josh Hamilton to the Angels. Everybody had Los Angeles running away with the division in pre-season projections (yes, including me). Of course I wanted Oakland to win, but I'm a realist. I thought they played out of their minds last season and had everything break right for them.

The young pitching was going to regress. Bartolo Colon was going to be clean of PED's and 40+ years old. The Angels were going to score 900 runs! I predicted the Athletics narrowing out the Rangers for a Wild Card slot and losing that play-in game to the Tampa Bay Rays.

So how would Oakland respond? Would they collapse under the weight of expectations like my local team the Washington Nationals? After a quick 0-2 start, the Athletics went crazy. Nine straight wins scoring 69 runs. I had never seen an Oakland offense get off to a hot start. It had always been a struggle. Maybe they were for real last year and it was going to carry over into 2013.

Then reality set in. Following a loss to Texas, Oakland slumped to 20-22 or 11-20 in just over a month's worth of games. They were seven games out of first place and the offense had disappeared.

Yoenis Cespedes, Josh Reddick and Coco Crisp were all struggling. Chris Young brought in to help the offense was putrid. Opening Day starter, Brett Anderson was (shockingly) injured. Thankfully the Angels had also gotten off to a wretched start. It was the Texas Rangers that appeared to have control of the A.L. West this season after choking it away a few months earlier.

That seven game deficit was the furthest they would be back for the rest of the season.

By the end of May they would be three games back.  Bartolo Colon was having his best season since he won the Cy Young in 2005. Josh Donaldson was carrying the offense. Jed Lowrie was a doubles machine. The bullpen was lights out. Behind Sean Doolittle, Ryan Cook and Grant Balfour all leads were safe. Balfour would go on to break the Athletics team record of consecutive saves set by Hall of Fame pitcher Dennis Eckersley. Some things were working.

The month of June saw Oakland win 16 games for the third straight month. At 13 games over .500 they stood just 0.5 out of first place. By the end of July, they would be alone in first by four games. It had been a full six games on the 29th of July, but by August 10th, just 11 days later, the Athletics were in second place once again, a game behind the Texas Rangers. For the second consecutive season the A.L. West would come down to those two teams.

On August 13th, it was a moment off the baseball field that would turn the season around. Coco Crisp received a cortisone shot on his ailing left wrist.

From that moment on Coco Crisp could do no wrong. He has hit 11 home runs since he returned on August 17th. The Athletics followed suit. At last count the Athletics had homered 68 times in their last 43 games (starting August 6th). The next highest amount in MLB is 50 with the resurgent Nationals here in D.C..

From the one game deficit back on August 10th, the A's would fall as much as 3.5 games behind Texas on August 23rd. September has belonged to the green and gold.

This month Yoenis Cespedes had his own cortisone shot and from the looks of it everyone should have one. He has been producing at an MVP level this month hitting .361 with 6 HR's and 19 RBI's. His previous high for a month had been .237 in July.

Up and down the lineup everyone is hitting. Outside of Coco and Yoenis, Lowrie and Donaldson are still doing their thing. Brandon Moss has been terrific. Josh Reddick has been better. Aleberto Callaspo was brought in from the Angels and has been hitting better than expected. The platoon team (which needs a nickname) of Eric Sogard, Nate Freiman, Derek Norris, Kurt Suzuki, Stephen Vogt, Daric Barton and yes even Chris Young have chipped in along the way in various ways.

The pitching has been good enough, but their deficiencies have been largely ignored thanks to the offense. The bullpen is shaky at best right now. Ryan Cook looks lost and the once invincible Grant Balfour has shown cracks in his armor. Bartolo Colon has returned from a DL vacation stint as strong as he was to start the season. Jarrod Parker had an 18 game start streak of not losing come to and end recently, but rebounded in his most recent start. A.J. Griffin has been homer prone but seems to be just good enough each start to be successful. Dan Straily quietly has been effective and rookie Sonny Gray has been solid.

Brett Anderson, still stuck on one win this season, is working out of the bullpen as is fellow starter Tommy  Milone who had been demoted to AAA earlier in the year.

This month Oakland has gone 16-5 while the Rangers have flat lined at 5-15.  This includes Oakland walking into Arlington and sweeping the Rangers on their home field. Fittingly it was a Texas lost that officially clinched the A.L. West for Oakland today even though they took care of business a few hours later with a victory over the Minnesota Twins.

Currently Oakland has the second best record in not only the American League, but in all of baseball. They have proven to be a more complete team this season. I believe they can still play better. Maybe not on the offensive side, but their pitching could easily improve, especially on the back end.

With six games left Oakland should exceed their win total of 94 games from last year, but as always it will be how they do in the playoffs that will be what everyone remembers. Since making the playoffs in 2000 Oakland will now be playing in the postseason for the seventh time in that 14 year period. They have only won one series in those previous six appearances. It has also been nearly 25 years since the franchise has last won a World Series. Could this be the group that gets them back to the mountaintop?

My 25 man playoff roster would look like this:

Pitching:
1. Bartolo Colon
2. Jarrod Parker
3. A.J. Griffin
4. Dan Straily
5. Dan Otero
6. Sean Doolittle
7. Ryan Cook
8. Grant Balfour
9. Brett Anderson
10. Jerry Blevins
11. Jesse Chavez

Hitting:
1. Coco Crisp
2. Jed Lowrie
3. Josh Donaldson
4. Yoenis Cespedes
5. Brandon Moss
6. Josh Reddick
7. Alberto Callaspo
8. Eric Sogard
9. Stephen Vogt
10. Kurt Suzuki
11. Chris Young
12. Seth Smith
13. Daric Barton
14. Derek Norris...yes three catchers.

If you want one more bullpen arm I suppose I'd keep Norris out and put Pat Neshak or Sonny Gray in his place.

FCNPFFL: Week 2 Results

If you think falling to 0-2 in the NFL is difficult to overcome, imagine the troubles a fantasy owner might have in a shortened fantasy season.  Whereas the NFL season is a full 16 games, a fantasy season is, at most, 14 games with many seasons lasting just 13 weeks.  Throw in future Bye Weeks to your starting lineup and 0-2 is a world of hurt.

Seven teams in this league are facing that unwanted fate.

Before we get to the scores, a friendly reminder of the upcoming Thursday night game between KANSAS CITY and PHILADELPHIA.  For those of you not keeping score at home, that is Andy Reid returning to the city of brotherly love.  That should be good television.

This week marked the first week in as long as I could remember that the MNF game meant absolutely nothing to the final scores of the games.  So here I sit on Monday night actually typing up this recap allowing me to be more productive at work on Tuesday.

Onto the games:

John and I tangled in a battle of teams looking to avoid that 0-2 hole. I took a quick lead behind a solid Patriots defense as they stymied the Jets and scored 11 points.  On Sunday, I extended that lead with early strikes from my wide receivers.  Dez Bryant wound up scoring 15 and Randall Cobb added 14.  John answered with 13 from Brandon Marshall and 11 from Eagles kicker Alex Henery.  Then John took a small lead behind 22 from Drew Brees, but Doug Martin kept me right in it with 14 points.  Only needing a handful of points from Colin Kaepernick on Sunday night, things looked good.  Through three quarters, I still hadn't wrapped up the game, but eventually Kaepernick squeaked out just enough to get me a win.

Final Score: Escaped Lunatics 75 The Situation 69

Another game with a guaranteed 0-2 starter (barring the dreaded fantasy tie) had our defending champion Nate, locking horns with Joel.  On the field, the Packers trounced the Redskins and on the fantasy field, Joel got the best of Nate in the quarterback battle as Aaron Rodgers outscored RGIII 40-27.  That's the good news for Joel.  The bad news was that his other seven players scored just 35 more points with none in double figures. Nate had three other players score in double figures with Arian Foster tallying 15 and Jermichael Finley and Garret Hartley kicking in 10 apiece.  That was enough to get Nate over the top and back to his winning ways.

Final Score: The Bounchers 85 Nikachu 75

Okay enough of the slow starting teams.  Week 1 top scorer, Mike took on fellow 1-0 member Ben in a pure classic.  Both teams hit triple digits this week as they (barring a huge Bengals D scoring night) were the top two scoring teams in Week 2.  That means somebody lost a game that they really shouldn't have. Outscoring 12 teams and losing is the worst. Mike was led by Matt Ryan who posted 30 points, but Jimmy Graham did his best to assist with 23 points.  Mike Wallace woke up from a long slumber with 13 points, LeSean McCoy put up 12 and Josh Brown booted in 11 points.  Ben responded with 23 from Peyton Manning, 15 from Pierre Garcon and 12 from Lamar Miller who had a better Week 2 that his 1 yard Week 1 effort.  Still, Mike was in great shape, up 27 points with Ben having just a single player left.  He must've already been counting that second $10 prize. No chance Marshawn Lynch could go #BeastMode on the vaunted 49ers defense, right? Wrong. Lynch scored a hat trick of touchdowns along with 135 total yards to amass 29 total points. His final score, a meaningless one in a Seahawks blowout, was a killer for Mike. Congrats to Ben on a huge comeback and the $10 payout.

Final Score: The Magic Wands 103 Bookoo Barbarians 101

And then there was the other 1-0 vs 1-0 game pitting Nick B against Matt.  Each team battled injuries and poor performances this week in an ugly effort. Matt saw Larry Fitzgerald barely do anything fighting an injury and his favorite player (as a Lions fan) Reggie Bush go down mid-game. Randy Bullock also added to Matt's misery by scoring (or is it pissing away) -1 points.  Only Eli Manning (18) and the Ravens D (11) went into double digits for Matt.  Nick B didn't fare much better. Already without injured receiver Danny Amendola, Nick B also saw Michael Floyd, Jason Witten and Phil Dawson combined for a paltry 3 points. Cam Newton did put up 19 points and Rashard Mendenhall added 13, but Nick was still in need of help.  The Seahawks defense came to the rescue with 18 points as Nick B moved to 2-0.

Final Score: The Knacks 64 Rainbows & Puppies 51

Nick G looked to stay undefeated while Alex looked to get win #1 in a pretty solid matchup.  Nick G had the games top two scoring players as Desean Jackson continued to flourish in the new Eagles offense with 24 points and Andrew Luck continued his steady play with 22 points.  Jordy Nelson added 16 points for Nick G which just happened to be the point total of Alex's top scorer.  That's never a good sign.  Alex tried to stick around with balanced scoring. Tony Romo had the aforementioned 16 points to lead the way while Dan Bailey added 14, Matt Forte 11 and Alfred Morris chipped in 10.  His other players did well, but not well enough.

Final Score: The Lollipop Kids 87 The Worthless Peons 76

Even though Lucas still has a player left tonight (and he has already scored a touchdown), it won't make a difference against Jody this week.  Phillip Rivers led all scorers with 33 for Jody in a shootout win over the Eagles.  Sebastian Janikowski, unfortunately for Jody, was his only other double digit scorer with just 10 points.  Luke countered with his Lions tandem of Matt Stafford and Megatron who paired up on both a 72 yard (double) touchdown and a 3 yard scored for 48 total points.  Heading into MNF Luke already led by 3 points and it now stands at 10 with 30 minutes left to play...and Gio scores again. Luke joins the crew at 2-0 while Jody falls to 0-2.

Final Score: Deathtongue 86  DoggNutz 67

Just like last week, our final pairing proved to be the clunker of the week.  One of the two teams had a pretty decent outing while the other just had the bottom fall out.  Adam and Ike proved to be a tale of two Sundays this week.  With 24 points from Julio Jones, Adam nearly had all the points he would need.  Yup, that about sums it up.  To kick dirt on Ike's fresh grave, Adam also saw Jamaal Charles score 14, Tom Brady and Matt Prater add 13 and Darren McFadden post 11.  Ike saw both his starting running backs, Ray Rice and Eddie Lacy, leave injured after just scoring two total points.  The silver lining for Ike is that his two bench RBs scored 32 points.  All is not lost.  This week, though, all was completely and utterly lost.

Final Score: Biggums' 'Basers 88  Myra's College Fund 29

Standings after Week 2:

Back Wall Division

The Magic Wands (Ben) 2-0
Lollipop Kids (Nick G) 2-0
Biggums' 'Basers (Adam) 2-0
Bookoo Barbarians (Mike) 1-1
DoggNutz (Jody) 0-2
The Worthless Peons (Alex) 0-2
Myra's College Fund (Ike) 0-2

Critter Corner Division

Deathtongue (Luke) 2-0
The Knacks (Nick B) 2-0
Rainbows & Puppies (Matt) 1-1
Escaped Lunatics (Jason) 1-1
The Bounchers (Nate) 1-1
The Situation (John) 0-2
Nikachu (Joel) 0-2

Week 3 Schedule:

Nick B 2-0 vs Jason 1-1
Luke 2-0 vs Nate 1-1
Adam 2-0 vs Mike 1-1
Ben 2-0 vs Jody 0-2
Nick G 2-0 vs John 0-2
Matt 1-1 vs Joel 0-2
Ike 0-2 vs Alex 0-2

A very interesting schedule as none of the undefeated teams face each other. Will they pull away or will the league become wide open?
